Activist Mohammad Mozafari Summoned to Serve Sentence of Flogging, Prison for “Propaganda Against the Government”

Iranian activist Mohammad Mozafari has been officially summoned to serve a sentence of two years’ prison time and 74 lashes, according to a June 13 Tweet from Mozafari’s personal account. Attached to the tweet is a formal summons document issued by Branch One Sentence Implementation Division of the Moqaddas Prosecutor’s Office, located within Evin Prison.

Mozafari’s sentence, which also includesa 2 million toman fine (c. 500 USD), was handed down for the charge of “propaganda against the government” by Judge Salavati at Tehran’s Branch 15 Revolutionary Court following a May 3, 2016 trial. After being appealed by lawyers Ne’mat Ahmadi and Zeynab Mozafari, Branch 36 Appeals Court of Tehran Province announced their confirmation of the ruling on May 22, 2018, according to the Human Rights Activists in Iran News Agency.

Mohammad Mozafari was taken into custody on February 15, 2015, and taken to the Revolutionary Guards’ Ward AA at Evin Prison. After three months of interrogation, he was transferred to that same prison’s Ward 8. On July 12, 2015, Mozafari was released temporarily on bail.

The summons requires Mozafari to present himself to Evin Prison within five days.
